What is the purpose of a CV?
The purpose of a CV is to inform an employer about your qualifications, so that he
may determine if you are suitable for his vacant job. It is important to focus
on those qualifications that can make you very attractive to the employer.
The most common mistakes made in writing a CV is to either include too little,
or too much information. Too little may give the impression that you "know noting",
and if there is too much information it could be difficult to sift out relevant
clues and may cause your CV to be put at the bottom of the pile.
Point out any special qualifications you may have. Since your CV will be generated
automatically based on information you enter in forms, it will have a certain standard
which our recruiting experts have defined. Details that are not completed will be ignored.
How to make sure that your CV is picked out?
Your CV in the Jobnew database will have a certain format. This is so that a
prospective employer may find you, based on selections he can make. The most important
section in your CV is the "Job preferences". This is where your selections are matched
with the employers criteria.
The employer can select these criteria before he scans the CV database:
- Branch category you have chosen,
- Work type (one or more) of the branch,
- Geographical location (one or more areas, etc.),
- Type of employment (permanent, seasonal, part time, etc.),
When the employer has made his selections, he retrieves a list of all CVs matching
his choices. This list identifies a CV by number, and lists the work type and
the keywords from the "personalia" section of each CV. It is therefore
a good idea to compose keywords that will make the employer go for your CV before the others!
The Jobnew CV generator:
All information you enter under "Create your CV" is stored in tables in our database.
Whenever the CV is to be generated (for example when you view it yourself, or the
employer asks to see it), all relevant data is picked from the tables and any section
without data is ignored. Some sections must be completed,
others are optional. The CV generator uses information from these sections:
- Personalia (Obligatory!)
- Experience
- Education
- Seminars or courses
- Referencesr
- Your job preferences (Obligatory!)
Personalia:
This section contains, naturally, personal information such as sex, working status,
name, address, birth date, telephone/fax numbers, email address and home page URL if any.
In addition there are the "keywords" and "Information" fields. The "Keywords" field
is often the most important, as here is where you can catch the employers interest.
In all sections, data entry fields with a red text must be completed.
Data entered into fields marked with an asterix (*) will NOT be shown to an employer
just asking to see your CV. We wish your CV to be anonymous to the world until you yourself
asks that it be sent. There could perhaps be complications if your current employer
should happen to come across your CV in the Jobnew database!
In the "Keywords" field you can compose an eye catcher of up to 80 characters including spaces.
This is what the employer will see in his list of CVs that match his criteria. When the
employer asks to see a CV, the generator gives him a version where your name, address, email
and all other information marked with an asterix is removed.
The "Information" field can contain up to 800 free text characters and should only contain
relevant information that is additional to the other sections and that you think an employer
ought to know.
Experience:
The first time you open a section, it contains no data. Pressing the "Next experience"
button will give you a form where you fill inn work experience, and save.
Continue pressing "Next experience" for as long as you need.
The "Description" fields for each experience can contain up to 255 characters.
Education:
This, as well as the other sections, follow the same routine. Obligatory fields
are marked with red text, the others are optional.
Seminars or courses:
Enter details about seminars and/or courses that are relevant for your CV.
References:
The firm's and contact person's names will not be shown to an employer selecting
your CV. This information is reserved for the CV you yourself send to the firm of
your choice. Other information in this section will be visible for the employer.
Job preferences:
This is an obligatory section! Only this setion is scanned when an employer
tries to match CVs to his criteria. His list of CVs will only contain CVs that match
his selections. Your CV is never seen if you don't select anything here!
When you are finished:
you can click the "Show CV" to view the generated CV as it will be shown
to an employer. Remember that all information that was mared with an asterix will not be given.
You can go back and change the CV at any time. Please remember your logon name and password!
